New employees take on muddy trail run for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity

Kevin Watkins, along with nine colleagues and partners from 360 Assurance recently took part in the Hardwick Hobble to raise money for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity. Having transitioned their roles into a service hosted by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust back in October 2024, the team saw this as a fantastic way to integrate into their new employer, while supporting a worthy cause.

The Hardwick Hobble, a 6.3km trail run around the picturesque Hardwick Estate, offered a unique challenge that attracted members of 360 Assurance. What made the event particularly appealing was its flexible format – participants could complete as many laps as they wished within a six-hour timeframe. This accessibility meant that individuals of all fitness levels could take part and contribute in their own way.

Kevin, an experienced runner, found the Hardwick Hobble to be one of his favourite events to date. He appreciated its strong sense of community, the inclusivity that encouraged more people to join and the friendliness of the race organisers. The day itself was a muddy affair so those that wore trail shoes were very grateful for them as some took a few unintended tumbles on the slippery terrain. In total the team ran over 212KM to raise money for the charity.

The group said that the charity t-shirts they received made a great touch to their participation in the event. These not only helped them spot each other during the run but also added a bit of camaraderie. Kevin said, “The t-shirts made us identifiable so we could look out for one another on the laps. The marshals even got involved and were cheering us all on as we went round. I think the link to the NHS resonates with a lot of people in a very positive way.”

The t-shirts also made for some great group photos to capture the day’s spirit.

Reflecting on the experience, everyone loved the open and inclusive nature of the event and the sense of belonging, so much so that some are already considering signing up for their next event!

The group’s efforts resulted in £1,095 raised, which they thoughtfully allocated to three important projects in need of funding:

· Renal dialysis caravan – providing respite and support for dialysis patients.

· Cold caps – helping chemotherapy patients reduce hair loss during treatment.

· Sensory room for the children’s emergency department – creating a calming space for young patients.

This event was more than just a fundraising run, it was a meaningful way for the 360 Assurance team to embrace their new employer while making a positive impact. Well done to the team for their dedication and generosity!
