Nightingale Macmillan Unit
The Nightingale Macmillan Unit is based within the Royal Derby Hospital.
The unit is a 20-bedded specialist palliative care unit which provides care to patients with advanced progressive and life limiting illness.
This includes patients with cancer and non malignant diseases such as motor neurone disease and end stage organ failure.
Patients are referred to the unit for assessment and management of complex symptoms.
The Palliative Medicine Department is made up of Hospital Palliative Care Team, Community Palliative Care Team, Outpatients Clinics, The Enhanced Bed Team, End of Life Care team and a Lymphoedema Service.
We are able to offer a wide range of services to our patients and families which includes complementary therapy, the support of a creative workers, palliative care counsellors and a bereavement support services.
Your generous donations to the unit (fund 14001) are used to provide patients with the best possible quality of life, and to provide them and their families with psychological, social and spiritual support. Donations are also used to purchase equipment, to enhance the environment and facilities of the unit, to fund education courses for staff and to fund palliative care and lymphoedema research.
There are three funds you can donate to that support the unit:
NMU Patients (Fund Number 14005) Donations to the NMU patients fund are used to fund the purchase of equipment and services that directly benefit patients cared for within all the departments at NMU.
NMU General (Fund Number 14001) Donations to the NMU General are used to provide patients with the best possible quality of life and to provide them and their families with psychological, social and spiritual support.
NMU Staff (Fund Number 14004) Donations to the NMU Staff fund go towards supporting the staff of the unit and to provide extra facilities for staff and help towards funding social events.
Ward 2 Donations to Ward 2 go towards supporting the staff and patients on the ward at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.
