Every step for mum: Elliot takes on the London Landmarks Half Marathon
When Elliot Sellors heard about the London Landmarks Half Marathon taking place on April 6th, 2025, he knew it was the perfect chance to make a difference.
Being from Derby and having witnessed the exceptional care provided at his local hospital, Elliot applied for a charity place through Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity. With friends already taking part, joining them felt like the right thing to do — it would be a meaningful way to raise money for a cause close to his heart.
Elliot wouldn’t call himself a seasoned runner — in fact, he only started running about a year ago. He’d describe himself as more of a “casual jogger,” but this challenge is something he’s determined to see through. To prepare, he’s been following a training plan, pushing himself further with each run, as race day approaches.
What truly motivated Elliot to take part was his mum, Karen. Having been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, she’s undergone countless treatments at the Royal Derby Hospital. “Watching her fight has been incredibly tough and at times, I have felt powerless,” Elliot shares.
Taking on this half marathon is Elliot’s way of giving back to those who have supported his mum and so many others. “I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work staff do to support patients undergoing chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Their care, compassion and dedication make a world of difference to people and their families during some of the toughest times in their lives.” Elliot has chosen to raise funds for the Combined Day Unit and chemotherapy services at the Royal Derby Hospital, ensuring that other families continue to receive the same compassionate care as Karen.
For Elliot, race day is about more than just the half marathon. It’s about the electric atmosphere, the shared excitement with friends and most importantly, the chance to give back to a cause that means so much to him. Crossing that finish line will be more than a personal achievement — it’ll be a symbol of hope, resilience and community, knowing every step taken is inspired by his mum and helping others.
We’d like to thank Elliott for sharing his story and wish him lots of luck for the half marathon.
