Who We Are

Welcome to your local hospital charity at the heart of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the best health care for all our patients and welfare for our staff.

On 1 July 2018, the NHS Trust brought together five hospitals in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth to provide the highest quality care to patients across southern Derbyshire and south east Staffordshire. The trust aims to deliver outstanding care for local people as we bring together the expertise of our 12,000 staff across our five hospital sites.

As part of this merge, the two Trust charities were also merged to create the now Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity.

The Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity is governed by a Corporate Trustee (the Trustee), a model of governance used by many NHS charities, and accepted by the Department of Health & Social Care and the Charity Commission of England and Wales. The Corporate Trustee for the Charity is the University of Derby and Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) and therefore all voting members of the Trust Board, Executive and Non-Executive Directors, act in the capacity of the Corporate Trustee.

Trustee responsibilities for charitable funds are to be discharged separately and in full recognition of the dual accountabilities held by the Trust Board. The overriding principle is that the integrity of funds is to be maintained, and statutory and trust law obligations met. All members of the Corporate Trustee will be sighted on the role and responsibilities of the Corporate Trustee on appointment and receive an appropriate induction and training.

The Charity is a registered charity (Registered Charity No 1061812), which is regulated by the Charities Act, reports to and is regulated by the Charity Commission.
