Maternity Team Takes the Challenge to New Heights with Abseil Fundraiser
This Spring, we launched the Challenge 1000 project, a unique initiative designed to inspire University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) staff to join forces with their colleagues to raise £1000 for our charity, supporting a fund of their choice. The response has been phenomenal, with many teams rising to the challenge, including the dedicated members of the Maternity Team at The Royal Derby Hospital.
The team, affectionately known as the “Five Sarah’s and a Guy,” has committed to participating in our thrilling abseil event this August. As of now, they have already raised £285.
When asked about their decision to join Challenge 1000, Sarah Pedlar shared the groups motivation:
“We’re gearing up to abseil down the iconic Derby Cathedral Tower on August 17th to raise funds for a newly established transitional care area on Ward 314. This 10-bed unit serves babies who aren’t ill enough to require the Neonatal Unit but aren’t ready to go home just yet.
“For these mothers and babies, who often stay for extended periods, it’s essential to have a welcoming space where they can relax, enjoy a coffee, have some food, and connect with family or other parents, while being conveniently close to their babies. This is a crucial aspect of supporting their overall well-being.”
