Danceathon Raises Hundreds For Head And Neck Department

A local fundraiser has raised over £500 for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity – as a thank you for the life saving treatment he received from the Head and Neck Unit at Royal Derby Hospital.

Ken Hine decided to step in to action with his wife Larraine and organise a Danceathon after he received his final radiotherapy treatment. He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his jaw earlier in the year and has just received his final treatments.

After deciding they wanted to give something back, the couple settled on dance, “My challenge for the charity event was to choreograph dances from around the world eg Cha Cha Cha from Cuba, Paso Doble from Spain, Merengue and Bachata from the Dominican Republic, Irish dancing, Bollywood, Samba from Brazil and American line dancing.

Ken supported all the dancing by playing and getting the music just right and made all the cakes for the very important tea breaks!  The raffle was a big part of the event as we had some great prizes from our local businesses.

In total, Ken and the Danceathon raised £522, “We are so very grateful for the wonderful expertise of Dr Nijim and Dr Laugharne, of course, for the amazing care received after the operation in the Head and Neck Dept.”
