Peut-Être theatre group brings interactive story-time performances to local hospitals
Peut-Être Theatre, in collaboration with our Air Arts division, brought a unique interactive experience to patients being cared for at The Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Hospital Burton last week.
The visit was organised as part of our arts in hospital programme and gave patients the opportunity to watch a live performance.
The performances were part of the theatre group’s show, The Dark, which is based on the book by Lemony Snicket. It provided a captivating blend of movement, live music and interactive elements.

Speaking about the benefits of bringing a live theatre experience to a hospital setting, Rosie Rutherford, Air Arts Music Coordinator, said, “We were thrilled to provide such an uplifting experience to the children we visited last week. By working with the theatre company and our NHS staff in the hospital, allows us to bring moments like these to young patients.”
The performance was designed to be inclusive and accessible to children of all ages, including those who are blind or partially sighted. By using an integrated audio-description, the performers ensured that every child was fully able to engage with the show.
Jill Matthews, Chief Charity Officer for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, said, “Working with Peut-Être Theatre has provided a wonderful opportunity for our charity to bring something new and exciting for those patients who are being cared for in our hospitals. It is thanks to the donations and support, we receive as a charity, that allows us to put on productions like this, for our patients and we are extremely grateful for that support.”
Keep an eye out for news of more Air Arts music sessions coming soon.
