Spreading Joy This Christmas: A Gift of Kindness to Our Hospital Patients

As the festive season draws near, many of us begin to think about the warmth and joy that comes with spending time with loved ones, enjoying hearty meals, and exchanging gifts. However, for some, this time of year is not spent at home but within the walls of a hospital. Each year, over 2,000 adults and children are cared for across our five hospitals in Derby, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire during the Christmas period.

While hospital care is essential, being in hospital at Christmas can feel isolating. For those who are unwell, far from family, or in need of comfort, the festive season may seem like just another day of recovery. That’s where we can make a difference.

A Small Gift, A Big Impact

One of the ways Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity bring a little joy is by providing each patient with a small gift. It’s a simple gesture, but it has an extraordinary impact. These gifts bring smiles to the faces of patients and for many, it’s a moment of connection, a reminder that even in the most challenging times, they are not forgotten. For some, it may be the only gift they receive.

The gifts are carefully selected to suit the needs of ages and interests. The joy and gratitude expressed by those who receive these gifts is truly heartwarming and reminds us all of the power of kindness.

How You Can Help

This year, we’re reaching out to you, our generous community, to help us make this tradition possible. We’re asking for your support in purchasing gifts for our patients, so that every individual in our hospitals can experience the joy of receiving a small token of love and care.

By buying a box (or more!), you’ll directly contribute to brightening the day of a patient who may be spending Christmas away from their family. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will help ensure that no one is forgotten during this special time of year.
