A magical afternoon out: charity funds panto trip for Lichfield renal patients

For the dialysis patients at The Samuel Johnson Community Hospital’s Renal Unit in Lichfield, the annual trip to the pantomime at Birmingham Hippodrome is a meaningful and anticipated event.

This special outing, which has brought joy and laughter to patients for many years, is a testament to the dedication and compassion of the renal unit staff and the incredible generosity of the local community, who have donated funds for the unit through Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity.

The annual trip is more than just an afternoon out; it’s a chance for patients to connect with others and create lasting memories.

This year’s pantomime adventure was Peter Pan, starring Alison Hammond. On January 26th, patients and their paying guests, were treated to a night of enchanting performances, whimsical sets and plenty of laughs. For many, this event is a highlight, offering a much-needed escape into a world of magic and wonder all made possible by generous donations.

Allison Beamand Senior Sister at the Lichfield Renal Unit organises the annual event and said, “All our patients, their guests and the staff thoroughly enjoyed this event, it gave them chance to socialise with other patients and for the staff to meet their families out of the hospital setting.

“It’s a chance for some patients to get out of the house for a few hours and enjoy the company of others.  Even the coach journey there gives some the chance to see a bit of the ‘outside world’ for a change.”

The team at Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this event possible — from the staff who organised the event on top of fundraising efforts, to the local supporters who choose to donate to Lichfield’s Renal Unit. Your generosity and support makes a huge difference.
