50 Miles for Turning 50: Lynsey’s Inspiring Challenge
Ambitious Lynsey Murray, Chief Pharmacy Technician at the Royal Derby Hospital, is gearing up for a remarkable personal challenge: running 50 miles ahead of her 50th birthday in early 2025.
To raise money for the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, Lynsey has signed up for a trio of exciting events that will bring her closer to her 50-mile goal. She’ll kick things off with the Alton Towers Half Marathon on November 16, followed by the Cathedral to Castle 10-mile trail run from Lichfield Cathedral to Tamworth Castle on April 6, and culminating in the Manchester Marathon on April 27.
Interestingly, when you add up the distances of these events, Lynsey reaches 49.3 miles. “It was proving quite difficult to hit that exact 50-mile figure,” she shares, “but with all the training miles, I’ll be logging well over 100!”
Lynsey is particularly excited about the Alton Towers and Manchester trails, noting, “I haven’t taken part in either of these challenges before, so I don’t know what to expect.” Both events are listed on the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity events page.
Training is going strong for Lynsey, who runs twice a week, hits the gym, and participates in Pilates classes. She’s motivated by a desire to prove that she “can still do it” as she approaches 50, while also raising funds for a meaningful cause.
Her fundraising goal is set at £500 for the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity. Although she hasn’t chosen a specific fund to donate to, she emphasizes her wish to “give back to staff,” having worked at the hospital for over 20 years. Lynsey reflects on the support that Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity provided to staff during Covid, offering hot drinks and meals that made a significant difference during challenging times.
