How your donations make a huge impact at Christmas
Every Christmas, Derby & Burton hospitals charity buy gifts so that every patient in hospital on Christmas day has something to open.
A grateful mother came back to the maternity unit at Royal Derby Hospital last week to donate some toys and say thank you for her gift on Christmas day and thank staff for the huge impact a simple gift on Christmas day made to her maternity experience.
Sarah Shaw, who gave birth to baby Holly four years ago, had a calm birth and was expecting to be home for Christmas but had to stay in a bit longer after a midwife spotted Holly’s breathing had deteriorated.
Once mother and baby had got the all clear, Sarah was waiting to go home and she received a surprise gift for her and baby Holly. After feeling low at the prospect of not being able to see her other daughter on Christmas day, the surprise gift really lifted her spirits and to this day Sarah has kept the packaging of the gift in Holly’s memory box as a reminder of the kindness she received that day.
