Evie Takes On A Mammoth Swim!
The very brave, 9 year old Evie has taken on a mammoth task to raise funds for the Nightingale Macmillan Unit.
Evie, who swims for Loughborough Town, is swimming the equivalent of the channel in her local pool which is 1352 lengths, in memory of her great aunty Suzanne who was cared for in the unit.
She already raised an amazing £4093 which will go towards the creation of a new day room for the unit’s patients and families.
“My wife was very sadly diagnosed recently with terminal cancer. She was admitted to the Macmillan unit in Derby when it was no longer possible for her to stay at home.
I cannot praise the staff and the facility enough.
My boys and I wanted to make sure she was never alone at the end, the staff was only too happy to allow us to stay with her 24/7 for the last two weeks.
The care and support that we all received from Macmillan was incredible.
It is so very hard watching a loved one fade away, but it would have been so much harder without the help of this incredible organisation. I will forever be in their debt.
I have so much respect for my 9 year old great niece Evie, who decided she wanted to raise money through swimming to support the Nightingale Macmillan Unit (NMU).
The money that Evie raises will enable the NMU to upgrade two day rooms into one larger space, making a much nicer environment for patients and their families to be able to sit together, with bi-fold doors leading to the garden. Thank you Evie.”
Suzanne’s husband Ashley is sponsoring her £1.00 per length and she has another 6 weeks to complete the swim!
Good luck Evie!
