A new chapter for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity
We’re excited to share that Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity has officially become an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – an important milestone that marks a new chapter for our charity.
While our legal structure has changed, our purpose remains exactly the same: to raise funds to make a real difference to patients, families and staff at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB).
Becoming a CIO gives us greater flexibility to grow our fundraising, build new partnerships and explore exciting opportunities to generate more income. This means we can continue to support projects and initiatives that go above and beyond what NHS funding can provide, helping to create an even better experience for people using our hospitals.
Our new Chair, David Pearson MBE, is looking forward to the opportunities ahead:
“I’m delighted to be taking on the role of Chair at such an important time for the charity. I look forward to working with our trustees, staff, supporters and colleagues at UHDB to maximise the opportunities this new status presents and make every donation count.

“Becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation marks an exciting new chapter for Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity. We have a real opportunity to reach even more people, businesses and organisations who want to make a difference to their local hospitals.
“Our main beneficiary remains University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, and we will continue to work closely with colleagues across UHDB to ensure donations are used where they can have the greatest impact.”
The future is exciting – and with the support of our amazing UHDB staff and the local communities we serve, we can do even more to make a difference to patients, families and staff across our hospitals.
