NHS and Charity Team to engage with spectators at England Cricket Match

Later this week, on 23 May, members of the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity Team will be hosting an information marquee at Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s ground to connect with the public and share how they can support the charity’s mission. This event coincides with International Nurses’ Week and will take place during the One Day International Women’s Match.

Joining the charity team will be representatives from the NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Team, who will offer free blood pressure and atrial fibrillation testing to attendees.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club has established itself as a premier venue for women’s cricket. The ground hosted a sold-out IT20 match in September 2023, and fixtures against South Africa and India in 2022 attracted record viewing figures.

The Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, in collaboration with University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, is dedicated to delivering Exceptional Care Together. The charity supports hospitals in Derby, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire, enhancing patient care through services that exceed standard NHS provisions. Generous donations enable the charity to fund essential services that significantly benefit both patients and staff.

Jill Matthews, Chief Officer at Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are delighted to attend the England v Pakistan match later this month. Engaging with spectators allows us to share our work supporting patients and staff in our hospitals. Our NHS colleagues from the ICB will join us to offer free blood pressure and AF tests, and we encourage everyone attending the game to take advantage of these free health checks.”

High blood pressure often lacks noticeable symptoms, yet untreated, it increases the risk of serious conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. Approximately 1 in 4 adults in the UK have high blood pressure, with many unaware of their condition.
