National Volunteer’s Week

This #VolunteersWeek (3 to 9 June), we want to say the biggest thank you to the hundreds of incredible individuals who generously give up their own time to volunteer at our hospitals.  Please join us in thanking them for everything they do for our patients and staff across our hospitals.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.

Volunteers play an invaluable role across UHDB – and the NHS as a whole – helping our hospital sites by helping patients, operational support, and so much more. Many, who visit our hospital sites, will have come into contact with a volunteer colleague – Volunteers Week provides the perfect opportunity for us all to celebrate and express our gratitude for their varied, outstanding contribution to our organisation.

We celebrated the 40th year of National Volunteer’s Week with a series of special events to show appreciation for our volunteers. The events, funded by our charity, were a chance to thank the Trust’s 400-strong group of volunteers for everything that they do to support staff and patients across the organisation.

Our volunteers went on a well-earned coach trip to the lovely Strafford-Upon-Avon last week and had a fantastic time as well as enjoying a celebratory thank you meal at the Mickleover Court Hotel with quizzes and bingo. Thank you to the team at Mickleover Court Hotel for their generosity in donating a number of prizes.

Volunteers were also celebrated on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit as they got to enjoy an afternoon tea as a thank you for all their support on the unit.

Jill Matthews, Chief Officer for the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, shared a message for our volunteers. Jill said: “Our volunteers make a huge contribution in helping to support fellow colleagues and patients. They work with such passion and dedication and are always around to welcome patients and visitors with a smile. We are immensely grateful to them for giving us the gift of their time – we are so honoured to support you.”
