Fundraisers team up to support mental health and local hospital.
A charismatic TikTok star and a local mental health awareness brand have teamed up to raise funds for the Renal Unit at Royal Derby Hospital.
Ben Newman, who is undergoing Hemodialysis on the Renal Unit and friend, Jonathan Hurst are hoping to raise funds from the sale of mugs and limited-edition hoodies.
Jonathan hopes to reach their target by January, “Ben sells merchandise and I bet him if he sold 100 mugs in one day I would make a hoodie to raise money for the Renal Unit. They are £35 and £10 from each sale goes to the Unit. We have just sent the 1st £150 with a target of £1000 total by Jan 31st.
Jonathan also hopes that the sale of clothing from his brand, FTHRhood, will help support local Fathers who are struggling with a Grant scheme and offer mental health support.
Mr Newman has over 120,000 followers on TikTok and shares pro cookery tips and chats about food along with raising awareness of kidney disease, having himself been on dialysis for 10 years after suffering failed kidney transplants in 2014, 2016 and 2019.
“I know that I’ll be on dialysis for the rest of my life, and I can live a long time if I remain healthy.
“A lot of my followers are on dialysis so it’s nice putting out a positive message to them and that they can be normal whilst having kidney failure.”
