Alison braves the shave in memory of sister, Sandra
Alison Willetts has successfully raised £280.00 for the Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity through a courageous act of shaving her head in honour of her late sister, Sandra. All proceeds from this fundraiser will directly benefit Ward 2 at the Royal Derby Hospital, where Sandra received compassionate care until her passing in February 2023.
Reflecting on her fundraising journey, Alison shared, “I took on the challenge of braving the shave in memory of my sister Sandra. My daughter, Tara Williams, took charge of the clippers and did an excellent job!”
Recalling a poignant moment with Sandra before her passing, Alison added, “I had promised her that I would fundraise for the dedicated staff of Ward 2, and she jokingly suggested shaving my hair. I promised her I would do it and a promise is a promise.”
Describing Sandra’s vibrant personality, Alison said she was the third eldest among 11 siblings and she always made people laugh with her ways. Sandra had a passion for gardening and cherished moments spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
“During her time in hospital Sandra spoke very highly of the staff on ward 2 and said how well looked after she was and how hard they work. When the family came to visit, the staff treated us in the same very caring way they treated Sandra.” Said Alison.
Jill Matthews, Chief Officer at Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity said, “We are continually inspired by the extraordinary efforts of our fundraisers. I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to Alison for her contribution to Ward 2 through her brave act of shaving her head!”
